Depending on your preferred sleeping configuration you will either love or hate this sleeping bag. It was the first double sleeping bag for us and we love it. However, if you prefer a bit more space between yourself and your partner then this is definitely not the bag for you. Of course, if you fit into that category you are likely not considering this bag at all and won’t be reading this review.

One of our biggest concerns before we purchased this bag, was if it was large enough to allow us both to sleep comfortably. I am primarily a side sleeper while my partner is a back/side sleeper. No matter which configuration we end up sleeping in, space has never been an issue. It is roughly the same size as a queen mattress so if you sleep on that at home, the Mammoth double sleeping bag will likely be large enough for you as well.
We have until recently slept in a non-insulted tent and the Mammoth 0°F double sleeping bag has kept us warm at temperatures down to 36 degrees. I have never slept with my side fully zipped up due to overheating issues, but my partner sleeps a little colder and does sometimes zip the bag up fully. I’m sure the bag would keep us warm at even lower temperatures, we just tend not to camp in temperatures much lower than the mid-30’s.
The bag comes with a high-quality stuff sack that includes compression straps to reduce the packed size a bit. It takes some muscle power to get it back into the stuff sack but it is doable. You should be aware however that even when compressed this bag takes up a considerable amount of space so if your car or gear storage space is limited this would likely not be the best bag for you.
We have been very pleased with the quality of Mammoth 0°F double sleeping bag. We have spent about 40 nights in it and have had no issues whatsoever. The Mammoth has sturdy two-way zippers that have gotten a lot of use and have shown no signs of wear or tear. Also, the bag is covered with a lifetime warranty so if you ever did have an issue the Manufacturer should fix or replace the bag.
The Mammoth double bag comes in differing temperature ratings. The 0°F is the warmest. Sometimes sleeping bag manufacturers will exaggerate the temperature ratings of their bags and although it is probably over-kill for what we need, I wanted to make sure we would be warm at temperatures into the mid-30’s. If you find the bag is too hot for you, it is very simple to unzip part of or all of the way.
I have found this to be a great way to control the temperature. However, if I were to do it again I would probably go with the 20°F version.
The Mammoth 0°F double sleeping bag is too large for regular washing machines to accommodate. We take ours to the local laundry mat and use one of the extra-large commercial machines.
At the end of the day, we both look forward to our time together before falling asleep. Connecting and talking in this bag vs. being in separate bags has worked well for us and increased our over-all enjoyment on camping trips.
If you are looking for a double sleeping bag that is large, comfortable, and will keep you warm in a wide range of temperatures (based on our experience) the Teton Sports Mammoth 0˚F Double Sleeping Bag would be an excellent choice.
